I just replaced the old water tank on our deep well and the pressure would cycle real quick several times and wouldn 't pump anymore. I could hold the contacts in and it would pump, so i replaced the old switch with a new, old one I had just for this kind of situation and it pumps water with a nearby valve opened all the way, but if I crack the valve it goes into the same rapid cycle as the old one, like it's on-off ,on-off, on-off. Do I need another switch?

Thanks For Any Help

your new tank...has a bladder or not.....you should (unless it is precharged) before you start the pump...pressure your new tank with air to 2 lbs. less pressure than what your "cut in" pressure is...it sounds like your tank is "waterlogged"

Most tanks nowdays are shipped over-pressurized so you can just let out enough air to make your pre-charge correct. A very over pressurized tank will act like a waterlogged one. I just ran into one of these on a service call today.

I replaced the switch with a brand new one and it pumps for a minute and shuts off and there is no water in the tank. So I'm going to let some of the air out of the tank and if i let too much I can always put some more in. I should have checked the tank to start with anyway thanks for all of you alls help.

thanks

Can one of you fellows tell me the correct way to set the air pressure on the tank? Yesterday I got my pump and tank where it will pump water in the tank by opening a valve and closing it when the pump came on and then when the pump shut off I would bleed some air off. Anyway this can't be the correct way. THanks for all of your help, you guys are great.

Thanks again

Turn the pump off, open a nearby faucet and completely drain the tank. Use a tire gauge and check the air pressure in the tank. It should read 2 psi less than the pump cutin pressure. In other words, if the pump cuts in a 20 psi, there should be 10 psi air in the tank.

Smitty,
That should have read: If the pump cuts in at 20 psi, there should be 18 psi precharge in the tank. Sorry about that.....
