A door fell off of my end table. I'm afraid to split the wood if I hammer in nails without drilling first. I can't find a thin drill bit long enough to do through both surfaces. Any other ideas?

Was the door attached with nails originally?

Hi There: The door was originally glued and had small brads or staples at the top and bottom.

The door that fell off the end table was attached with brads and glue. I removed the brads. The glue is very dried up. I tried to drill holes at top and bottom where the brads were in order to use nails, my thin drill bits are too short to drill through both surfaces (the door and the table). I was thinking of using dowels by drilling a hole on both surfaces large enough to glue a dowel in on one side and then using glue and hammering in the door. Would this work? or should I just drill a hole large enough to use a screw and hope that it won't show? I also will scrape off the old glue.
