Just Wondering

While away from home, I am having someone water the plants in my house once a week. When they go over, the first thing they do is to flush all the toilets in the house and run the showers. They say this has something to do with preserving the pipes.
Is there any validity at ALL to this practice?

Thats a new one on me. The only thing I can think of that may cause a problem if you were gone for an extended amount of time, would be a floor drain that might dry out. This would allow sewer gas to enter the house. Have never heard of what your plant person is talking about.

Hi, I think it all depends on how long you are gone. One thing though, it sure won't hurt. I have a home in the desert I go to at least once a month and I always run the water in all the appliances. Seems prudent to move the valves and change water in traps and toilets.Helps keep calcium build up down.
I've been working on a mobil home that was vacant for some time and the plumbing damage is hard to believe every appliance leaks someplace.
