Dear forum guests I seek your wisdom.
Every time I try to glue rice paper to wood it deforms and develops wave shapes in the paper (in its shape that is). What can I do to prevent it from deforming?

I've never done that, however, begin by not using a water based glue such as white glue. You might want to research glues for veneers, which also come in paper thin thicknesses.

brush the glue on the back of the rice paper with a soft brush.

You may want to try a spray on contact adhesive. Usually you need to cover both surfaces with contact adhesive, but in the case of rice paper to wood, I would just spray the wood. a light but even coat should work. Use a roller, such as a roller for applying veneer, to smooth out any bumps or air pockets.
