Our 2nd floor Bathroom sink has a sewer gas odor when we run the water for at least a minute. There appears to be water in the p-trap which should block odors. Could there be a problem in the overflow opening towards the front of the bowl? Or could there be a problem with the ventilation pipe to the roof?

Any help would be appreciated.

Try pouring a cup of bleach into the sink with the stopper closed. Then fill the sink and let it run into the overflow. There may be bacteria growing that is causing the smell. This will kill it. Good luck.
