Hi. I'm hoping you all can help me a bit with several questions/concerns.

We are thinking of putting laminate flooring in the main room of our 1929 bungalow. The flooring now is the original hard wood. It is badly dented and splintered in areas. It is very creaky (particularly annoying when baby is sleeping) but there is no subfloor to help alleviate that.

So, I believe with big dog and active baby, laminate is best. But is it ok to put over hard wood? Other than the thin foam layer that goes underneath, do we need anything else? How would we test for leveling issues?

What do we do with the moldings? Do we need to remove them or can we just lay down the floor and put quarter round as a finisher (currently there is no quarter round). What about around the door frames? Currently, the door frame seems to sit ontop of the floor. So, would we need to somehow cut the door frame to slip the laminate underneath or would we just cut the flooring to fit around it?

Another quandry is the radiators. Will the flooring affect how the radiator fittings attach? What I mean is will I need to get some kind of spacing piece for the pipe fittings to accomodate the rise of the floor? Am I making sense?

Any and all advice is appreciated. Also any comments on experiences with installation, wear, water issues (apparently water is not friendly to laminate), etc. Any thoughts on Cork as an alternative?

Thanks!
