I have a new patio that butts up to the back of the house against a parged block basement wall. For the most part there is good drainage as my yard has a noticeable grade anyway. I haven't really had a hard rain until today. The water does run off away from the house for the most part except for a few spots up against the block wall. Very small puddles are left, but don't seem to last long. I have been noticeing this as I spray the patio down from time to time also.I'm not sure if the water gets soaked up or finds its way between the wall and slab and goes under the slab.
My concern is how critical are these couple of small puddles? I'm concerned because I don't know how the water is draining under the slab; ie draing away from the house or not. Any chance of the water being able to get through the parged block wall? if drainage is an issue? Sorry for the long post

As long as what you are talking about is small puddles, less than 1/16" to 1/8" deep on the slab, they're not a concern. They are called "birdbaths", and are simply a low spot in the concrete. The water is either evaporating or the concrete is sucking it up, and it evaporates later when it warms up.

Yeah, I don't think they exceed 1/8'' inch. Its just the slab drains decently except for a couple spots by the house. Thats where it bugs me.

if there is room between the slab and the house you could fill to make sure the water stay on the patio and does not rdrain along the block foundation. i just put in a paver patio and at the end i filled the crevases with polymeric sand and it's neat. when it is done properly it turn into a touch rubby substance. now my crevaces were tiny between the pavers but a few were 1/4 inch and in those spots the sand feel like a touch rubber track (like track and field track). just a thought fo ryou if needed.
PS: cost is about $25 for a 60 pound bag so it's pricy.
