I have a small backyard (30 x 40) and one corner has bamboo (3 x 5' area).
The problem is that the bamboo is spreading and it will likely take over the whole yard if I don't take some step(s) to control it's spread. I don't want to get rid of of it completely, just contain it to it's current little corner.
Idea: dig a 18' trench around the bamboo plot and put in sheetmetal to stop the spread of the rhizomes. Dunno if that will work though.
Any suggestions?

That's what they did on an HGTV show a couple years ago. I think they used plastic as the metal will rust.

That will work - but if you are cutting down bamboo, be sure to clean up all the pieces, as you may see bamboo sprouting in your lawn if you leave any cuttings around - we've learned from experience....
