Our water softener is a 15 year old Kenmore. We have a family of 5. We have a well. Currently it is set to regenerate everyday. I think there are times when we run out of soft water but we also go through so much salt, it seems we are wasting it.
Two water softener salesmen come out and look at the unit. Both said it is softening the water, but that it is not keeping up with demand because of its age.(Not sure if they are just trying to sell me a unit)
My question is how do I know if it needs to be replaced. Is it better to get a softner from a dealer who can install it and maintain it, or can I get the same quality and performance from a Sears/Home Improvement store model. I have had a hard time finding performance ratings for softners.
Thanks!
