 My fiberglass (standing-not tub) shower base is old and grungy looking! What are the options. Can the base just be reinstalled over the current one? I have ceramic walls which is not too bad and a sliding glass door. I have heard of these acrylic re-baths that just fit over the current one for $2500. Are these tacky and is this the cheapest way to fix this problem? or can I paint the bottom? Thanks in advance.

Depends solely on what goes over the pan as far as refinish or the like. If it is an entirely new one, you will have to open the walls so that there is no termination of pan that water can pool up on or collect.
I would say taking the old one out and putting a new one in is the proper technique for such a task.
Shortcuts never last.
