I have a fridge on my back porch for the summer. Yesterday I opened the door and felt a little zap. Something grounded? Can anyone offer some advice to what is causing this.

Sounds like a short in the electrics, and is energizing the cabinet. The cabinet (for the past 20 years) have been grounded via a screw to the ground wire of a 3 prong wall plug. You cabinet is no longer grounded, i.e. too old of style, or 2 prong plug, or broken ground wire to cabinet.

If it doesn't happen all or most of the time it could be static electricity. I get it all the time. Not saying it can't be a wire, but if it was I wonder why it would be a little zap rather than continuous.. Does it happen when you touch the door or when you open the door?

Only when you touch the little metal strip on the handle.
