I have a four year old basic Kenmore frig. The Freezer drips water from ceiling of frig into the bottom of frig. It then refreezes. Sears told me the controls were too cold- Now the ice cream and other food is not cold enough and it still leaks. Went back to sears and they want to send a repairman out for $55 just to check and then at least another $200 to fix it. They said maybe the heating element? It is a top freezer model with one temp control- very basic white model. Please help- GWIZ or somebody!
Cant say about your Kenmore.
The basics are the same.
You have a set of coils in the freezer compartment.
The coils build up frost. a defrost heater turned on by a timer maybe every 6 hours, 10 hr's something.
The heater may stay on for 20 minutes.
The heater melts the frost the water drips into a pan under the coils, the pan has a hose that may lead down under your refrigerator with a second pan/tray that collects the water, that water just evaporates.
If-If your Freezing coils are located in the ceiling.
If the hose gets plugged the water will build up in the pan and freeze preventing any water from going thru the hose.
Maybe an insect got into the hose from the bottom water tray.
If the pan is frozen with water, turning down the freezer will not melt a full pan of frozen water.
I had a GE with a 1/2 gal of frozen water in the pan.
I think the freezer was set at Hi for a week or three the pan got to cold, plugged the hose with ice.
The pan had a heater that checked good I just removed the Ice from the pan.
The pan heater was about 60 watts its not going to melt a block of ice.

In your type of refrigerator.
The problem I have is. Most But not all freezer coils are located at the bottom of the Freezer compartment, Not in the ceiling.
You may just have air leaking in at the top of the door.

What's the model number and serial # ?
Sears web site may have a drawing that shows the location of the coils. That's the first thing to look at.
How much water do you get ?
Is the refrigerator compartment at the proper temperature ?
