Installed a 300w flexible track kits from home depot about 2 years ago. 3 out of 5 track heads' plastic parts melted. Specifically in the area of the halogen pin contact and another plastic area near the base. It's hard to describe that w/o pics. We took down the transformer and it has some black tar-like substance covering all the wire components. I'm guessing it is fire preventive feature. I notice the tar is soft and it looked like it had bubbled before. Perhaps it was manfactured soft with bubbles. Do you think I have a faulty transformer or faulty track heads? Was there some maintenance I could've perform to prevent?
My concern now is to find a reputable replacement. I liked how the flexible track look in my ceiling. Please post some brands or website I can look into. I live in NJ/NY area. Thanks!

I think your transformer failed. Be sure that the fixture is mounted within the parameters set in the installation instructions, and be sure that the bulbs are the type and wattage that are approved for your fixture.

Everything that was installed was from the box. We had it for 2 years and did not need to change a bulb until now. One by one they are breaking down on us. Just so that I understand the theory behind this. So the transformer is outputting too much resulting a meltdown at each track head. With the two track heads remaining...do you think it will walk the same path faster or slower? Want to know how much time I have before I have a blackroom :p
