Hi,

I installed this t-stat in February 2005 and it worked fine through the heating system with my carrier heat pump. The heat pump says it was manufactured in 9/86... So it was the original one put into the home. I tried to get A/C this weekend and no luck. I went to the Honeywell website for troubleshooting and they suggested that I take out the wire going to the "C" (which for my wiring is the blue wire). I did that and it still is only providing fan circulation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Leaving the wires alone, did the fan come on when you just turn the fan switch to "ON"?

if it don't, then I'd check by jumping R and G together.. The fan then should come on..

If still dead, then you want to check your 24 volts system and see if you are getting power from the heat pump's air handler/furnace.

Thanks for the reply...

When I first installed the t-stat... I did exactly what it said in the manual and had the C wire in and when I tried to turn on the AC the other day, the fan did turn on and circulate. It's a problem of getting "colder" air out now... Any other suggestions?

The T-stat will not make the air colder...

Is the outdoor unit running when you turn to cool?

If it's not make sure you have the Y hooked up. What type of heating system do you have?

Yes, the outdoor unit heat pump is running outside. I haven't checked to see if that copper wire along that black insulated piping is cold that runs from the heat pump to the furnace area. There was no "button" for me to push on the heat pump as some troubleshooting techniques mentioned.

I think your t-stat is working as it was intended to,
is your filter clean?, is the outside and inside units clean? also, do this, turn the unit on, let it run for a few mins, you could be low on freon, do you know if your unit leaked freon in the past?, had anyone ever add freon to this unit, and if so were the leaks reapir before adding the freon?
You may have to call a tech out your way to have a look at what is going on there.

I looked in the air handler and the coils area in the furnace... A bit dusty in there... so I guess that could be part of it... The filter is quite clean... I guess I will need to call a pro...

I thought it may have been the freon because in the past, people have mentioned they had to get it refilled. How can I be sure that it is a freon issue? Will that copper line not get cold or anything else I can look for? I don't believe there was a leak in the past, we've been in the house for 2 years... last summer (our first summer there), the AC worked fine on its own... no real maintenance or work to get it up and running... just switch the lever from heat to cool.

Anyone out there do service in the Baltimore area?
