Hi all,
I have a shallow well jet pump at my barn that is about 6 months old. Its a 3/4 HP Red Lion. I have a Sears galvanized tank that is old (inherited with the property). When I run the water, the pump kicks in pretty quick. It turns on and off repeatedly with maybe 20 second luls in between. After about 3 minutes, the pump kicks in and I gradually start to lose pressure and the pump stays on. I seem to lose the prime. I have learned to simply unplug the pump at this point. After about 10 minutes I can turn the pump back on and it will fill the tank (and I repeat the 3 minuite cycle). I leave the pump unplugged as when I leave it plugged in, it often kicks in for no reason and refills. Any suggestions on what is happening? I replaced a very old pump with this one as it was doing the very same thing. I see/hear no leaks in the pump area. I also notice that I can go about 5-10 minutes with the pump kicking on and off if I turn the tap to about 1/3 of the way open (i.e. less water running, taking much longer to fill things)

Thanks alot in advance for your input.
Joe
