I recently bought a Danby a/c 8400 btu unit. it never cooled the room since day one. It would start working, compressor, fan and all and we would see the thermostat showing that the temp is going down a deg each sec. when it reaches 16, the compressor would stop and then the thermostat would go up again, one deg per sec; So basically every 20 secs or so, you hear the compressor going off..... but the room never cooled down beyond 26 deg. I don't know what is the problem... maybe it is installed incorrectly? half the unit is indoors, side vents and all while the other half is outdoors. also my room is getting a lot of sun during day time....
anyone can explain or help?

Remove the front panel/filter and see where the sensor is at.. It almost sounds like it's touching the coil, or it put n the wrong area... like in the area where the cold air blows out.
Or the air blowing out of the vent is it blowing right into the room or is the vent turned over to the intake.. (Cold air is beiing sucked right back into the intake)

Hi,
I have a Danby 5400 BTU unit and I've been having the same kind of problem (see the thread I started). I've traced it down to how the thermostat reads the temp from the sensor, but I don't quite have a solution for you yet.
When the unit was still under warranty last year I had the thermostat replaced, but I still have the same problem.

I took off the front grill and discovered by accident that the sensor (a wire with a bulbous head) was sitting in the cold condensation water that had pooled at the bottow of the tray. The water pooling was my mistake cos my unit isn't slanting in the correct direction (that is tipping slightly outwards so that condensation can drip off). I will have to correct that. But anyway, I readjusted the wire such that the bulbous head is upright and resting against the fins, and therefore in the path of incoming air. And voila, after that the unit is working well.
I keep my fingers crossed that it is THE problem.
