I had a calcite neutralizer installed about 3 years ago as the PH of my tap water was only about 3.5. The plumber told me to check the level of the calcite about every 3 months. After the first 3 months I did and it was a solid block inside the tank. Called the plumber and he said so long as my PH was fine (and it was and still is) there was no concern. Three years later I still have never added any calcite and there is still a solid block of media in the tank. However, today I also checked my total alkalinity and it is about 200, which I gather is way above what it should be. Should I be concerned about the total alkalinity number and the solid block of media which never goes down? This is water just serving the house through copper piping- no pool involved.
