Hi,
I have a Bradford White water heater that is about 6 years old. The water heater is leaking cold water. Two quick questions:
(1) There is a tap at the bottom of the water heater. It may be a drain tap but I am not sure. Should I open it and drain the water out? If yes, should I drain all the water or some?
(2) Any other suggestions on what I can do to stop the water from leaking?
Thanks,
Sushrut

Turn the power or the gas off to it shut the cold water off to it.you can put a hose on that bottom drain valve and open it to drain the water out of it. if the tank leaks get a new one.

Ed,
So, I turn the gas knob from on to off. Then I connect a hose pipe to the drain tap and drain the water. How long do I do this? Till the water heater is empty or just for a few minutes? Also, do I have to do anything special before I switch the knob from off to on again? There is a pilot setting on the knob also.
Thanks for the help.

You said the tank leaks. So you have to get a new one. Shut tha gas to it off and also the cold water to it.
