View Full Version : Latex wall paint too thin

I took a 5-gal can, with about 4 gallons in it, to the paint store where I bought the paint, had it tinted darker color than it was, now it's quite thin. The paint will "flow through" the brush faster than it should when initially loaded with the paint. It's covering fine, it's just dripping like crazy. Can this paint be thickened properly?

Can this paint be thickened properly?
Never heard of that being done, so its doubtful.
Possibly they used way too much tint, or it wasn't mixed properly.

I know they had to use a lot of tint to get the color I wanted, I was trying to salvage and use this paint I had on hand. If it can't be thickened, I can use it as it is. Thank you so much for taking to time to reply.

No problem.
I also should have asked if it was originally used for spraying, like a bucket of touch-up from new construction.
If it was once sprayed, then it probably was thinned down big-time.

No, this was not mixed for spraying. It's paint I had left over from a project I had a couple of years go, I also have another 2 gallons from my x-husband's house, he had hired me to paint that. Just didn't want to let this go to waste, so I had it all tinted the same. As I'm using up from the 5-gal bucket, I'm adding the 1-gallon cans I have, it'll work fine and it will all tie in, and I'll get it done. When it's the proper thickness it just goes so much faster.
Thanks again !
