I am installing a low voltage lighting system in the front of my home. The transformer is installed on a GFI protected outlet. The instructions say to install the first light a minium of 10 feet away from the transformer. I am wondering if that is a shock issue or what? I have about six feet.
The voltage drops the farther you are from the transformer. Too close and the lamps will get too much voltage and burn out.

pcboss is correct. However, the distance they are talking about is the length of the wire, not the physical distance of the lights from the transformer. If you want the light 6' from the transformer, just run 10' of wire and put a couple of loops in it.
