Last year I bought a Danby Diplomat window air conditioner. It is sized properly for the room size, but it does not cool the room adequately :wall:. Even when the thermostat is set to the highest setting (9), the compressor only comes on for 2-3 minutes every 20 minutes or so. It has a "test" setting where the compressor runs continually and I'm getting lots of cold air in that setting, but you can't leave it there as the coils freeze up. I did have the thermostat replaced, but it's still giving me the same problem. I'd like to know if there's any way to adjust the thermostat so the compressor cycles more often.

Set the unit to high with the t-stat set to max, remove the front cover and while it's running do a hand job ( rub with your hand) on your t-stat causing it to warm up, your compressor should continue to run, if not you could have a bad t-stat. When you put it on test and it runs fine tells me that it's a good chance your t-stat is at fault, your compressor seems fine to me.
Also, if you turn your t-sta knob to 1 and then turn it to 9 do you here a clicking sound?

Hey Hiltontech... thanks for the reply. I do hear a clicking sound at first, but as soon as the compressor starts, the tstat thinks the room is colder than it is, and shuts off... no more clicking sound. I did the "hand job" (nice!) on the temp sensor, and the tstat did warm up enough to put the compressor on, but only barely... it backed the click down to say 8 and shuts it off again as soon as the sensor cools down slightly. Is there any way to adjust the sensitivity on that thing?
