In the process of planning an addition to the 2nd floor that would extend over the attached 2 car garage. We plan on using professionals, but I want to get some ideas and planning done before hand. My questions are, 1.) will a new foundation be needed for the existing garage to support the 2nd floor add-on (I think it will because a crack has developed separate from the expansion joints and there is a slight tilt to the floor on one corner) and 2.) can a basement space be added below the garage if the foundation needs to be redone?
