The previous owner of our house installed a new Goodman CLT060 condenser about 2 years ago. I just learned that the airhandler (which just failed) was never replaced. A contractor said since the attic space is so limited I must use a Rheem or Ruud air handler, others will not fit. I'm worried about mixing Goodman with rheem, he says I'll be fine. Anyone agree? Or disagree? Thanks for the help.

I agree that Rheem and Goodman are compatible but, what "failed" on the other unit that can't be fixed? To often service tech act more like salesman than repairman.

The blower motor failed. The contractor also said the bottom of the unit and the drip pan are rotting. Since this is the original air handler (1979) he said I'm not getting the true efficiency of the condenser, in-other-words, I'll also save electricity if I by the new air handler. I didn't ask for a repair estimate, but his estimate to install a high efficiency Ruud is $1,900.

Id say get 3 bid for this job. What he is trying to sell you is the builders bottom of the line for sure. You need the inside and the outside units the same to get the seer that they say . Dont look at anything under a seer of 12 or better and for now stay with R 22 freon.

my .02 cents
