Hi! I took my chandelier down in order to paint it. I had thought that the wiring was pretty straight forward, so I didn't bother to write it down. Anyway, the project took longer than expected and now I can't figure how to get the chandelier back in working condition. The ceiling has 1 white, 1 black, 1 red and a grounding wire. The chandelier has one wire that is split (one acting as a white wire and one acting as a black wire) as well as a gounding wire. We had tried every possible combination. The closest we came to returning the chandelier to function was connecting the chandelier wires to the ceilings red and the white wire as well as the grounding wires. This resulted in the light working however, it comes on via the breaker and not the dimmer switch as before. We checked the dimmer switch and found it functioned so we can't figure what we are doing wrong. Any suggestion?

Try connecting the unribbed side of the cord to the blackfrom the ceiling. Connect the ribbed side of the cord to the white from the ceiling. Connect all grounds together.

:wall: I tried "connecting the unribbed side of the cord to the blackfrom the ceiling. Connect the ribbed side of the cord to the white from the ceiling. Connect all grounds together." When I turn the breaker back on the light turns on; however, it is controlled only by the breaker. The dimmer has no effect. Any other suggestions?

Connect unribbed from fixture to red from ceiling. Connect ribbed from fixture to white from ceiling. Cap off the ceiling black wire and don't use it.

Have you done anything at all to the wiring at the dimmer switch box? Did you remove it for painting too?

Are you sure that there is just one wire of each color in the ceiling box?

Thank you for your help!! We connected the red and white wires from the ceiling to the fixture ( as well as connecting the grounding wires). This turned the lights on using the dimmer switch; however, we found that the dimmer switch was bad as the lights did not dim, they merely turned the lights on and off. Replaced the dimmer switch and the chandelier is back working as before. Thanks for your advise!!
