We just bought a house and need to put up a wood fence. I have a few questions and hope someone can help. I will be putting in 315 feet of fence.

1. Which is cheaper, buying pre-fab from box stores or going to the lumber yard.

2. I live in the middle of Washington state. What is the best type of wood to
buy. Pine or cedar?

3. Depending on where I buy the wood, store or lumber yard about how much
can I expect to spend?

4. What is stick building a fence?

Thanks for any and all info.

I don't use the premade panels, simply because you have to set your posts EXACTLY right for them to fit right. If your post is 1/4" off, you have no way to adjust the panel for it.

Big box or lumber yard? --Go shopping. 315' of fence is more material than you can haul in a pickup in one load. Ask about delivery, and how much extra that would be at either. Factor it into the cost. LOOK at the quality of the material.

NOT PINE!! That's no going to stand up to central WA weather (rain, cold, heat). Cedar will. Another option is vinyl. (ZERO maintenance!)

'Stick built' is buying the boards and building the fence, as opposed to buying the prmade panels.
