Outdoor unit making a snapping sound

My outdoor A/C unit starting making a snapping or popping sound while running. Any idea what could be causing this?

Hard to say. Id start check all the electric wire in the unit. Post back if you find more out. In same post

It's definitely something electrical, I was just wondering what it might be (if it is something that goes wrong alot). I really hate to mess with electrical stuff so I think I'm going to have someone come out Monday

Does it make the "poping sound" the entire time the unit is running or is it just at start up?

It does it usually the entire time its on, every few minutes. I thought I shut the a/c off when I left this afternoon but I forgot to. A family member got home and was upstairs using the computer when the whole house's electrical started flicking and dimming and then smoke started coming out the outdoor a/c compressor. They shut it off and turned off the breaker and outdoor disconnect................ bad luck always seems to find me! A/C guy coming out tomorrow.
