View Full Version : pump losing prime, low pressure

I had city water hooked up to my home, and the guys who did it ran some new lines to attach the old pump to my outside spigots. While the pump was hooked up originally, it worked fine.

Ever since they unhooked it and re-did it, the pump has very low pressure which won't build up no matter how long it runs, the pump never shuts off (runs constantly when plugged in), and loses it's prime.

They initially left the precharge tank out of the system, I had someone hook it back up thinking it might help, but it hasn't. I'm at a loss, and so is my boyfriend, neither of us having much experience with pumps.

My brother said there should be a plug on the top to add water and regain the prime? Another friend said the tank might have too much air in it? Does anyone have a link to a diagram of a pump and how it works? What would be the most logical progression of things to check?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
