Hello DIYers,
We are putting hardwood floors in out kitchen and dining room , and I don't know what type wood or stain to go with. The cabinets are cherry "butternut" (yorktowne) a lighter stain, and the appliances are stainless. The floor also goes into the dining room, where we have country natural pine table, chairs and hutch (broyhill fontana).
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
aj

i think you'll want to go darker. it sounds like both the cabinets & the DR furniture are on the lighter side, so go a few shades darker, or really dark. but you probably don't want to go lighter, and anything too similar to the cabinets & furniture will just clash and/or look like you tried to match it and failed.

as far as which wood to choose, since the existing woods don't have too much grain pattern in them, you could go with an oak and introduce some pattern, or stick with a cherry like the cabinets. if you're wanting more of a country look, continue with the pine like in the DR.

i'm going to move this post to the Wood Floors forum so hopefully, :) Twelvepole :) will see it & chime in. she's the expert on choosing stains & woods!
