ac turns on then blows fuse

my window ac turns on, runs for 5 minutes or so then blows the switch on the surge protector or the fuse when plugged directly into the wall. please note the unit will run longer when it is not too hot out. can anyone advise?

Sounds like your compressor is failing, call in a tech to inspect your unit.
How old is the unit?
