I was planning to layout about 1100-sft aria (living, dining and family rooms) of hardwood using basketweave pattern before one of the contractors questioned popularity of basketweave and said that I will have hard time to sale my house with basketweave floor. Here is the pattern that I wanted to use laying it down diagonally:

I want to use light color ¾“ x 3 ¾“wood mixed with small cherry squares nailed down to plywood or nail down light color bamboo mixed with darker color.
Please let me know your thoughts, I really like the basketweave pattern but if it is not going to be asset for my house I will spend the money on something else.

Your contractor is scared!!!!!!
He is selling you out of a custom idea, he may not be able to handle, or afraid he is not going to hit that number you like, without underbidding it.
I don't know about where you live, but custom wood flooring is a hit, if you can afford it. To do a basket weave, plan on 4 to 10 times the labor price, of a straight lay.
For me to do it, labor alone would be around $12.50 a foot.

My house is in Irving, TX.
The only reason I talked to the contractor is because he got my phone number from one of the hardwood dealers and he called me offering his services. I’m planning to lay the floor myself. I have some woodworking tools and skills and I thought I could do it myself. I have some extra time after work and will use it preparing one plank at the time untill I have all the peaces ready for laying. I’m still in the planning and budgeting stage and will highly appreciate your help on my other threads:

Transition peaces to 1-inch lower floor (http://forum.doityourself.com/showthread.php?p=799413#post799413)

It will look stunning. If I had to make all of those repeat cuts you would be wise to consider the Festool system with their router and worktable package combo. It brings a nice price on eBay when you are finished.
