I am installing a standard 5' Kohler cast iron tub. I have a solid, level floor. I know steel and fiberglass tubs need a 2 x 4 (or other) support attached to the wall studs to support the tub flange. Is this support necessary for a cast iron tub? It seems like I can do without it since the tub has little feet under it, but I want to double check. Please reply soon--I need to get on with this job!

Thanks.

Yes. Install stringers for support. The floor if it becomes damaged by water will not support the tub in the case of water damage.

I would still use a bed of mortar underneath tub for support; make sure to put poly between tub and mortar.
