I moved into a villa several months ago in S. Florida and have a separate Honeywell humidistat above the thermostat. I never saw this before. Someone explained to me how to use it if I was going away on vacation but he didn't know about everyday use while at home. Previous owners left the humidistat at 60, but in the recent summer heat, the AC was running continuously not getting cooler than 80 (it was set for 77). Home warranty man (previous owners also purchased this plan as part of the sale) put in some freon and said that should help a little, and he saw no problem with how the humidistat was set. The freon didn't help and I told the warranty people to send me a different guy. Home warranty man #2 came out and said the humidistat needs to be all the way to "on" with thermostat set at 77 if that's the temp I want. He said the humidistat must stay at "on" for the thermostat to work. Then the air ran continuously, cooled to 74 and kept on cooling. Became too cool for me. I turned the thermostat to 80, 90, made no difference, it kept cooling. So I inched the humidistat from "on" to 20, 30, 40, and then a little past 50, and it finally shut off. And now I making tiny adjustments with the humidistat (and thermostat at around 77 or 78 now seeming to respond right)to get it right. It seems this is what I have to do to get the villa cool--a lot of guess work back and forth. Is this how it's supposed to be??
My AC is a Heil, 17 yrs old, 2 1/2 ton, rather inefficient air handler according to repairman #2 (doesn't put out as much air to the farthest room), 1550 s.f. villa (1 unit of a duplex).
