Termite and Wood Boring Insects - Termites in furniture

While helping my mother clean a bedroom today we discovered that an antique dresser had been eaten by what we assumed was termites as we found wings in the drawers. What can we treat this with or do we call pest control. We can save the dresser at this point by having it repaired but need to prevent this from happening again.

Drywood termites are found in a narrow strip from Virginia, south to Florida, along the Gulf of Mexico and from Mexico to northern California on the Pacific coast. They do not need to be in contact with soil like subterranean termites. And, they can infest furniture. Drywood termites may attack wood products of all kinds. Structural timbers and woodwork in buildings, as well as furniture and other wooden objects, may be damaged. You might want to have your home inspected by a professional exterminator to make sure you don't have termites anywhere else.

Treatment for control of drywood termites can require fumigation of the home or localized spot treatments. There are DIY Drywood Spot Treatment kits available for limited dry wood termite infestations.
