I bought a double hammock porch swing that can hold up to 450 lbs. I would like my husband to hang it from the ceiling of our porch. He said that if the joists are 2x4's, then he can't do it because it wouldn't support that much weight. We don't know exactly what is under the covering, but he thinks they are 2x4's. I have a feeling he just doesn't want to hang it !
Any advice?

2x4 is not a problem, especially if he uses different studs. I hung a porch swing on the same 2x4 (6 foot wide porch). At various times, there was easily 450 pounds swinging on it and it was not a problem. A neighbor was concerned about his 5 foot swing, so he sistered (doubled) the 2x4 it was hanging from.

Thanks, Bob
One more question for you if you happen to know - the ceiling of the porch has an aluminum covering. How would my husband find the 2x4's underneath so he knows he has the right spot?
Thanks in advance!

can you see any where where they attached the aluminum? You should be able to see the nails holding it to the 2x4s.
