View Full Version : Noise from Refrigerant Lines?

Just had a new central air system installed, (compressor/airhandler/and coil).
The system appears to run well. The new coil had to be replaced as it was found to have a leak upon installation.

The refrigerant lines were run through the corner of my bedroom closet and capped.

When the a/c is running I can hear a vibration type of noise similar to a faucet running when I am in the closet. When the bedroom door is closed you really cannot hear this noise at all.

*** My question is.....Is it normal to hear any noise from the lines at all, or should they be completely silent?

I am having a similar problem with our system.
It sounds like 'gurgling water' running thru the lines.
I was told by a family friend, that sometimes the orifice at the air handler may be the wrong size and/or not installed correctly.
He said it is a very common problem.
I will be interested to hear what you find out.

After listening a bit closer, it actually is a steady vibrating noise when the system is on.

Being everything is new I'd call back the tech and ask him to inspect it, he should not charge you anything.
Sorry if it's not the naswer you wanted to hear but it's hard to say unless some one is there to see for themselves.

It is very common to hear refrigerant flow on start up of each cycle but the noise should go away after a minute or so.

It is a constant low buzzing noise.

I will definitely bring it to the contractors attention even though the a/c seems to be working just fine.

I guess I just wanted to know if all is well should these lines be dead silent, or is some noise to be considered normal.
