View Full Version : New refrigerant
What do you guys think about the r22a safe refrigerant? This replaces r22. I am thinking about purchasing some for my home unit once I get it repaired.

R 22 is not a safe freon if thats what you mean. The new freon is R410a. If you are not EPA you cant work with any freon or units that have to be gassed.

Are you talking about R422A ?? There was a bootleg 22 around that had propane or something in it but I forget the number. Here is a good article on what's out there for replacement and the thermodinamics. http://www.fmi.org/energy/presentations/AlternativeRefrigerants.pdf
I would just stick with good old R-22.

I think this is what the poster is asking about.
There are many "22a" products on the web. Supposed to be usable without an EPA license (not that that is hard to get).
Anyone use these?
Larry
you can google sect 608 and sect 609 license.
http://www.epa.gov/Ozone/title6/608/sales/sales.html
Thats the link to the EPA site for what licenses can buy what. (no taking peoples word for it)
The sect 609 you can take online open book and then $25ish later you get your license in the mail.
The sect 608 isn't that hard either but you have to go to a proctored exam usually at a community college in your area and a few fill in the bubbles later and $39ish you have your license
I would say get a type 1 and then you can buy the freon to work on your system. If you get the sect 609 which is the easiest (and will get your the ability to buy refrigerant you have the pdf of the book open while you take the test online) you can replace the system with 414b which is just as good as r22 and more environmentally safe.

If ES22 is so good and I have read some of the stuff on it Why dont any of the saleman that call on me sell it????????????
You also cant just blow the R22 in your unit and put this in.You have to can the R22 or get a fine of $10,000

I looked up the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on both of these products. They are both flammable & a leak can be ignited by a spark. I can imagine having a leak at the condenser & having the contactor spark when it pulls in.......BOOM
DON'T USE THIS STUFF, IT IS DANGEROUS
