I've got a 16hp Tecumseh, think it's the OH160 (143.660012)

The compression release came apart and was chewed up. When I took the block apart, the counterweights moved. There are no marks on them to line up with.

The crank drives both weights simultaniously.

When I put everything back together as my best guess per manual from the library, it ran really choppy and bouncy so I must have them off.

Any ideas how to figure out how they go? Could I just take them off? :D

The single small hole is a rollpin.

Ok, the book you have is showing a little different engine. On your engine, you want both counterweights hanging down exactly as you have them in your picture, and then install the crankshaft with the keyway on the crankshaft turned UP. If you try to leave them out, the engine will REALLY vibrate.

Seemed to work like a charm. Atleast it doesn't vibrate so much and I can get the idle down to 800 without a hickup. Though I think even after a rebuild the carb is shot hehe.

Thanks! (hope I had the keyway on the crank right. There is the keyway for the flywheel, and the notch for the cam timing... I used the flywheel key.

I believe the keyway where the cam drive gear sits on the cranshaft is the one you want pointing up, but it might (???) happen to coincide with the flywheel keyway as well.
