A simple project has turned into a major project. I was changing the faucet knob and face plate on my delta 602 when I broke the small tubing going to the part inside the wall that accepts the hot and cold water. Is it even possible to change the faucet fixture with out cutting a hole in the wall? The opening is about 6 inches in diameter. It looks like the orginal fixture was soldered in.

A 6" hole isn't really big enough to do any soldering in. I wouldn't recommend it, especially inside a wall.

Get out your drywall saw. Unless there is an access panel behind the shower, you're going to have to cut one in to replace the faucet.

Go through the wall on the other side of the bathroom, if possible. If this happens to be inside a closet it makes it a little easier to repair/hide. Just my $.02.
