We are in the market for laminate for our new home. We plan to do it ourselves in the great room (15x26) and dining room (12x12). I am really turned off by laminate that sounds hollow. What is the best underlayment that will make it sound "soft" when walking on it? THanks in advance!!
:)

Purchase a quality laminate, with the attached cushion.

It is like night and day, when the hollow noise is of concern.

It being glued to the laminate, it absorbs the resonance.

I am looking at installing Pergo Vintge Home which does not have attached padding. I have a sample of Quiet Walk padding by Midwest 50 cents a sq. ft. Could you please give me your opinion of this combo. The install is over a ground floor concrete slab with no apparent moisture problem.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Buying the manufacturer's 'best' underlayment for sound deadening is recommended. If installing over concrete, you will need a vapor retarder, too.
