The house I just bought has really ugly green PLASTIC TILE around the sink and toilet, not in tub/shower. Can I paint these the same as ceramic tile, they are not exposed to water. Something I thought of is liquid sander, would that work for roughing up the surface for primer to stick to it?? Any thoughts are helpful, I really don't want to have to try and take them out. Thanks :)

It would be better to replace them [not all that hard to do]. IMO paint will stick better to plastic tiles than ceramic. Preparing them with liquid sandpaper will help BUT go easy as the solvent can melt the plastic. Finish with a good latex enamel.

I agree with marksr. Make sure though to use a good bonding primer, and allow it to thoroughly dry before top-coating.

I think i may have the same ugly green plastic tiles in my bathroom. My girlfriend did some research, and she found this special "gripper" primer that we used on the tiles. that helped the paint stick better to the plastic tiles. we painted it the tiles white, so a couple coats of both primer and paint were put down. ( and I still swear i can see that ugly light green).

It makes the bathroom look a whole lot better, even if it's not as good as just replacing the tile.

I agree, the XIM Gripper primer is real good stuff for slick surfaces. I recently painted a piece of gl***, and it adhered awesomely.
