We are constructing a new home with a full basement and want a fireplace in the familyroom in the basement and also one in the livingroom of the main living area.
The livingroom fireplace is to be centered between 2 windows. The space between the windows is 101".
The downstairs fireplace will be used to burn wood and will have a 48" opening. The chimney will be offset in order to center the fireplace upstairs.
The upstairs fireplace will be a vented gas log insert.BUT just in case anything would ever happen and I would need to actually use this to burn wood,I want it to be a fully useable fireplace also. I have been told that this can't be done and get the fireplace upstairs to be in the center of the room as was planned! Was told that it wouldn't work because I would need 2-13" flue liners to make both fireplaces usable and this would make the chimney to close to the windows to lay brick.(house is totally bricked.)
My problem is why can I see homes with 3&4 stacked fireplaces...all using the same chimney...and mine won't work with 2?!
I would appreciate any help, suggestions, plans, instructions or any ideas on where to find info about this.
Thanks!
Kathy
