hi,
I think i know the answer to this, but want to be sure. Elect is not the best source of heat (economically) but the way propane prices are going up, maybe it is not soooo bad.
I need to put some heat on my 2nd floor and have the option of propane heated water baseboards. or elect heated baseboards.
I was going to use a smaller instant propane water heater to run the water heaters. Thats the only thing the water heater would do, not supply and hot water for showers, etc.

However, the easier installation option is to put in elec baseboard heaters. Is there any website that will show a comparison of cost, etc? Or does anyone already know how much the difference would be?
Thanks for any help

Several questions.
What area of country do you live?
What are the size of rooms you need to heat?
I am making assumption natural gas is not available and that installing ductwork would be difficult or cost prohibitive.

There are ductless mini split heat pumps available. Here is a site to look at.

Here is another site for fuel comparison.

Thanks, I will look at those sites and see if I can figure out what the split heat pump thing is.
Anyway, I live in the Northeast (VT) brrr, very cold winters, sometimes 20 or more below, i have forced air oil heat downstairs right now, but up stairs there is no heat whatsoever. It would be the entire upstairs (30x60-70??) about. Right now it is all wide open, but I am thinking of dividing it into 3 bedrooms, (normal sized) 10 or 12 by 14, and one bathroom, and then there would be a long hallway down the length of the house and a small open area at the far end. (for a desk and maybe kids play area) btw the cieling is about 10 feet high. The walls have blown in insulation and I will upgrade the windows.
The ducts would be hard to install space wise for the forced air.
Natural gas is not available this side of the mountain.
I have the oil like i said in the basement, but I also have a propane tank right along the side of the house that fuels a small fireplace downstairs. I figured I could run a line up the exterior wall and then come right in thru the upstairs to fuel a small tankless water heater that would provide the water for the baseboard radiators.
Other optin, again, is elect (non water) baseboards. cheaper to buy, a heck of a lot easier to install, but maybe expensive in the long haul.

thanks for taking the time on this for me.
