Gardening and Horticulture - Burning Bush

Does anyone know why a burning bush's leaves would turn yellow in June in Michigan? Is this normal? Is there anything I can do?

To be sure we are discussing the same plant, I know the burning bush as Euonymous. The leaves are usually green with yellow borders, so the yellow color should be normal.

Is your plant different? How long has it been in the ground? Is there anything else abnormal that you notice?

Could be insects or too much water or not enough water or damage from a harsh winter or ??? Something like this needs a personal look-see. Take a cutting to a local nursery and ask the experts there.

Is this a new planting?

Burning Bush can get scale. These are tiny hard-shelled insects that can be found between the branches. They can cause plants to lose their vigor. Before buying any insecticide to use against scales read the label to determine if the plant and scale you have are on the label. It can take two to three years to completely eliminate scale insects.

If bush was planted in sterile clay soil or soil with high pH, you may get premature fall color (faded red-green) as a symptom. Pull back mulch, fertilize root zone, reapply mulch, and water. Plant vigor probably won't return until next year.
