A bit of miracle-grow every couple of weeks does great. Its diluted and is just part of the normal watering.

I usually feed mine in the spring when they leaf out. If they are long blooming flowers, I will feed them along during the blooming season to keep them fed well. Usually a dose of miracle grow every two weeks. I feed most of them in the late summer so that any growth that results has hardened before the possibility of frost. Some of the larger shrubs, I will feed in December when I feed the trees.
Hope this helps.
