I just wanted to say I planted some sunflowers in February and I just removed the first batch of seeds from the first batch of blooms.

This has been a very good gardening experience and I hope to plant the resulting seeds soon.

Questions:

Will sunflowers grow if planted at this point in the season? (I'm in Florida)
The stalks that don't have any heads on them - do I just get rid of them? Will they bloom again?

Staggering planting times of sunflowers will provide blooms all season. Cut spent blooms and plants. Don't pull up spent plants, as you don't want to disturb neighboring roots of plants that are still blooming. It takes about 60 days for sunflowers to reach their height, so planting now would be fine. They can grow as much as 12 inches in one day.

Thanks for the tip! Should I germinate them in peat pots or just stick them in the ground? The last ones were germinated in a flower pot, moved to a larger one and then planted in the ground when they were about 8" tall.
