how do I go about findign a fireplace in the houe we have a chimley coming out of the roof but have no idear which wall it may ly behind are ther any l#tell tail signs to finding one, and what should we do once we haev found it?

What shape is your chimney? Rectangular? Square? How many flues are in the chimney (see top)? If it is square, it is most likely an old flue for a furnace or stove somewhere. If it is rectangular, the fireplace (or it may just be a flue for a coal or woodburning stove)will usually face one way or the other from the wide sides. Look directly in line with the chimney to figure out where. If you want to open it up, if it is a fireplace, you can probably only use gaslogs in it, or re-line the old chimney for wood fires (expensive to do). Good Luck!
