Painting - primer/sealer for drywall compound

I have a textured wall that I skimcoated with drywall compound for a smooth look. The guy at the paint store tells me that the benjamin moore all-purpose primer is appropriate for that, but I've also heard that I need a special sealer (kilz?) for drywall compound. Given that it's an entire wall of compound, I want to make sure I prime it properly. Is the benjamin moore primer good enough? I plan on applying at least two coats. After that, the top coat(s) will be a benjamin moore acrylic paint.

The B.M. Fresh Start primer will work fine.
I, however, prefer to seal mud/bare drywall with Zinsser's Gardz.

Gardz looks like interesting stuff - but have never seen it in the stores. I've been using Kilz Premium partly because in some places I need a little stain kill. Just wondering if you've every tried the USG First Coat - supposedly has ability to fill in scratches and small imperfections. Of course, I can't find that in the stores, either. :rolleyes:

SWP sells USG first coat along with their own brand of high build primer. As far as I know it is meant to be sprayed on.

Yep, I think so too. It goes on at such a high mil thickness that it would be tough to achieve with a brush/roller.

Register and get a free sample.Right under where it says spray application next to the pail. If you need to ---lie when you register. It will not save you if you do a bad tape and finish job. Needs a heavy duty sprayer to apply it.

Gardz works very well and is easy to apply!
