Hi,
This is my first posting so be nice. I recently bought a 1950 house in California, I think it came with the original furnace. Additionally, I am hoping to move the unit into the garage. Is it worth it to buy a new furnace or just move the old. I am leaning toward the first option, can anyone also offer recommended units.

Not sure where about in CA you are at? either way, it would be good to get a new system..

I wouild almost want to bet that your system is oversized and no comfort from it.

have the dealer make sure the current ductwork is sized right to handel the new system.. You have Central Air now, and plan on having one?

if you got the space in the garage to have this done, go for it... Lot easier to get at than in the attic if needed.

Hey Jay,
Thanks for the response. I figured a new unit was the next step, I live in the LA area near the ocean so I am uncertain about installing a air unit. I have heard there are some dual units out there so if thats an option I might go for it. The current unit is in the house in its own closet, I want the space to enlarge my bathroom, thus my desire to update the unit, I barely even use the heater. Can you recommend any paticular brands, I have only looked into the home depot and sears and haven't heard great things about either.

Since you want to add central A/C & use very little heat, I would suggest either a heat pump or just an A/C with some electric heat strips. As far as brands, don't worry too much about what brand the equipment is, but be greatly concerned about the installation. I would rather have the "cheapest" equipment installed by the best installer than the "best" equipment installed by a "cheap" installer.
