Upon removing a very old and no longer used chimney, soot went EVERYWHERE!! In spite of our attempts to clean everything we are still finding SOOT on EVERYTHING. I am embarassed :o to say that we did NOT cover anything before starting this project because the chimney was NOT being used and hadn't been for many years so we figured the mess would be minimual. BIG MISTAKE!! Can anyone please tell us the best and most effective way to clean up this SOOTY MESS? Thanks in advance...

I would hire a professional chimney cleaning company, which should have a special soot vacuum rig, to clean up the worst of it, and then clean up what is left. They should be able to remove most of it. Good Luck!

I would call my home insurance company and have them get a professional home cleaning company there quickly. A chimney sweep would probably do the same thing if he caused the mess with his special vacumm.
