Hi,
Thanks in advance for any and all advice. I live on the second story of a two story condo. I'm going to have floating bamboo floors laid down in a few weeks, but before that, I want to lay a small amount of tile around the front entrance, about a 3' x 2' space. It's a concrete subfloor. Assuming the concrete is level and clean, how else do I need to prep it? Can I use cementboard? The reason I ask is that I want to make sure the tile is at the same level as the eventual flooring and if I were to lay the tile directly on the subfloor, it would be too shallow. If there's soundproofing under the tile, this would help somewhat, but I wasn't sure what type of soundproofing is typically used under tile. The bamboo will have a sound-proofing/moisture-barrier pad, and all told will be about 3/4" off the subfloor.
Thanks again.

You cannot install cement board over a cement slab, but what you can do is mark off the area to be tiled build a dam out of 1x2 wood and pour Self Leveling Cement into the opening to the height you want before the tile goes in. Let it set overnight then break away the boards, clean the edges and set the tile. That should help a little with the sound deadening issue too.

Great idea, thanks! I actually have some self-levelling concrete left over from fixing the floors in another room.
